A worker reviewing a pre-start briefing and asking a supervisor a question

Section 01 · 1 of 8

Before work starts

Know the task, the site and who is supervising you before you begin.

  • Complete the site-specific induction and know the emergency exit, first aid location and assembly point.
  • Use the correct PPE, licence, training and supervision for the task.
  • If a task is unclear, unsafe, unauthorised or not properly equipped, move to a safe place and ask the host supervisor.
  • Ask for an interpreter, demonstration or different explanation whenever you need one.
RememberStop and ask—never guess your way through an unsafe task.

This short guide is based on the VIC MANPOWER General Workplace & OHS Induction. It does not replace the host employer’s site-specific induction or task training.
